About TAJ and David Showers
David Showers and his AI-created editorial personas.

Artificial intelligence. Human perspective.

The Algorithmic Journal is an independent digital magazine built around a simple idea: artificial intelligence can help us tell better stories, but people should remain at the center of them.

We cover the subjects that shape everyday life — News, Technology, Lifestyle, Entertainment, Faith, Sports, Money & Work, and Culture — with an emphasis on thoughtful writing, useful information, and stories worth spending time with.

A Different Kind of Editorial Team

TAJ is intentionally different from a traditional publication.

Our eight staff writers are AI-created editorial personas, each developed with a distinct background, perspective, specialty, and voice.

Tom Mercer covers News in The Brief.
Maya Chen explores Technology in Future Tense.
Claire Bennett writes about Lifestyle in The Everyday.
Jack Sullivan covers Entertainment in After Credits.
Daniel Whitaker explores Faith in Between Faith & Doubt.
Marc Reynolds covers Sports in Beyond the Score.
Mike Torres tackles Money & Work in Payday & Purpose.
Ellie Hart examines Culture in Commonplace.

They aren't presented as real people, and we don't want our readers wondering otherwise. Transparency about how TAJ is created is part of the publication itself.

AI-Created. Human-Directed.

Artificial intelligence is used throughout our editorial process for research, drafting, development, and creative work. But TAJ isn't an experiment in removing people from publishing.

It's an experiment in what one person, working creatively with AI, can build.

Every article is produced under human editorial direction and review. Topics are selected, ideas are shaped, stories are evaluated, and the final decision about what appears in The Algorithmic Journal remains human.

We believe that's an important distinction.

Why TAJ Exists

The internet gives us more information than any generation has ever had — and increasingly less time to make sense of it.

TAJ isn't interested in adding more noise simply because technology makes it possible to publish more.

We want to create something worth reading.

Sometimes that means explaining an important development. Sometimes it means questioning where technology is taking us. Sometimes it's a story about work, faith, money, sports, movies, or the ordinary parts of life that don't make breaking-news alerts.

Whatever the subject, our goal is the same:

Be interesting. Be useful. Be thoughtful. Be honest about how the work was made.

Founded & Created by David Showers

The Algorithmic Journal was founded in August 2026 by David Showers as an independent exploration of what publishing can become when human editorial judgment and artificial intelligence work together.

TAJ is not a newsroom pretending AI doesn't exist.

And it isn't an AI content factory pretending humans don't matter.

It's something in between — and we're building it in public.

Welcome to The Algorithmic Journal.

About David Showers

For more than 25 years, David has worked where technology, publishing, customer experience, and human needs meet. His career has included digital product leadership at AAA National, where he worked with online travel content and digital roadside-assistance products; digital product management at Bonnier Corporation; and publishing Extant Magazine, an independent publication created to encourage thoughtful conversation about everyday life.

David also founded and operated Graybeard Wood Shop, turning his interest in woodworking into a small business. Today, he works as an integration planner supporting systems and processes in aerospace manufacturing. Across those different roles, the work has shared a common thread: understanding complicated problems, bringing people and technology together, and making useful ideas easier to understand.

Former colleagues have described David as creative, knowledgeable, patient, dependable, and unusually good at explaining technology to people without technical backgrounds. Those qualities shape the publication he wants TAJ to become—intelligent but approachable, curious without being pretentious, and useful in real life.

How David Works With AI

David is the human founder and editor behind the publication. He selects and develops ideas, establishes the editorial direction, reviews and revises the work, and makes the final decision about what appears on the site. AI can assist with research, drafting, organization, and illustration, but it does not own the publication or bear responsibility for it. David does.

TAJ is not an experiment in removing people from publishing. It is an experiment in discovering what one experienced person can create with new tools while remaining honest about how the work is produced.

A Human-Centered Perspective

David earned a bachelor’s degree in Christian counseling and spent several years serving as a volunteer counselor. He has also served as a commissioned Stephen Minister and is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors. That background taught him to listen carefully, respect the complexity of people’s lives, and look beyond easy answers.

It also explains why TAJ is interested in more than technology itself. The journal is ultimately concerned with what change means for ordinary people: how we work, relate to one another, make decisions, find meaning, spend our time, and build a life in a world that rarely slows down.

David lives in Central Florida. Away from the journal, he enjoys woodworking, learning electric blues guitar, and following the ideas and cultural shifts that often become future TAJ stories.
